I am looking for a solution like Appian (www.appian.com) that is affordable for a small / medium sized business. We are looking for something to automate business processes / forms and need an affordable way to handle these forms on-line with workflows (approval & forward to the next level) and then provide the data received via an interface to an ERP system. An example is a customer / credit application that is filled on-line by the sales rep or customer, signed electronically, then sent to the company's credit department for review and when approved, is uploaded into the CRM / ERP.

Is there any add on from the ERP vendor in place? The smarter ERP vendors have either built in some processes and/or established alliances with others to provide a "best-in-class" extension to processes like new account opening, quote/contract/ sales order approval, PO approval, including e-signatures, etc. Those extensions normally have configurable API's to speed up the implementation.
Your industry may also influence what you need-e.g. is it highly regulated?
