BRD for an ERP Implementation

erp requirements document Hello All,my company has just concluded on a BPM project in preparation for an ERP implementation. Outcome from the BPM project proved the need to implement an ERP inorder to achieve the level of efficiency required.

Next phase is to do an RFI/RFP. I need help with documenting and identifying our business requirements especially as we are not sure which solution we'd go for. Does anyone out there have a sample similar document to kick start the ERP vendor evaluation.

We are a Telco service company with 150+ employee workforce,anyone have an idea which ERP would be best for us.

Hi Ayo,

Start with documenting a 'Happy Path' scenario. The happy path should list the major steps in the life of a product or service. For a company of 150 employees, you will probably have 2 or 3 happy path scenarios that encompass 80% of all your needed functionality. Each happy path scenario will be about 2 or 3 pages of bullets.

Give the happy path scenarios to ERP implementers to start the discussion. The goal is to have the ERP implementer to walk your service or product through a demo company in their recommended ERP. Keep in mind that choosing the right implementer is just as or more important that choosing the ERP. ERP systems are largely commoditized these days.

Hello Avo,

What functionality do you need from an ERP system?
Is it back office only or do you also need:
-Lead-Opportunity-Quote-Contract
-Order Configuration-Provisioning
-Charge Collection-Billing/Taxes-Rev Rec
etc.

Telco industry has many unique functional requirements and the software vendor market is limited.

Your budget is also a factor.
