I have a client company that would like to provide some amount of benefit to families of employees that die (accident or natural causes) while traveling on company business. Obviously not a frequent occurrence but there is international travel involved and they want to make provision for this event in their policy manual. We have discussed a lot of options and all seem to have some issues depending on the situation. The company has ex-pats in multiple countries. Comments from anyone that has a policy like this in place and functioning. How is it working and what would you change? Can you share the wording in your policy? Thanks.

What I have seen is where employee can donate accrued PTO which can be cashed out to donate to family in these unfortunate circumstances; or direct donations whereby the company can match it. How this effort is branded and marketed should be in context of organization culture.
