We are considering automating A/P and would like to know how automating has improved efficiency -- if there have been issues -- or if there is a better program to use to automate.

It's tough to give you an accurate, valuable answer without understanding a little more about your needs, in the context of what kind of company you are, your business model, single or multi-location/country/currency, are expenses internal or re-billable, etc.
If you are looking to automate AP, what have you done to examine current state processes, define what you need in future and establish the value/benefit of making a change? Your future state processes should be the anchor of your search and evaluation of software that best meets your needs.
If you start from a product perspective, you may well miss options that would help you achieve your goal.
In a lighthearted way: "if Concur (or any other business application) is the answer, what really is the question?" :)
