We're in the consulting business and need something much better than our DIY CRM implementation using Google Docs.
1st a question. How large is your organization? Unless you are enterprise level, neither are suitable for you. The prices are high and the implementation and customization need to be done by either an in-house specialist or by a 3rd-party vendor.

We're about 100 people, including staff consultants, independent/freelance consultants and admin.
Roughly, I would say NetSuite will cost you about half as much as SalesForce. NetSuite is fully integrated into its accounting/ERP system from the start, whereas, SalesForce is stand alone and requires various integration solutions with accounting/ERP systems. Both have flexible reporting and ease of customization (...SalesForce is a little easier). The above is per my (limited to two companies each using one or the other) experience.
