Does anyone have a good recommendation for a publishing ERP - specifically for newspapers (yes newspapers).
And does anyone have a cost estimate for MS Great Plains - is it per seat license - do they offer a cloud version?
What is your migration experience?

Microsoft Dynamics GP is available via the cloud on a subscription basis. In terms of per user costs, it varies depending on the edition selected and types of users required (Full Access, Light, etc.). Best practice when evaluating Dynamics GP is to seek out a partner with years of cloud and industry expertise. Best wishes on your analysis.
I do not personally know of a publishing specific ERP; however, if you are considering a generic ERP like Great Plains (Dynamics), I would start with ADempiere. It has pretty much the same feature set, and ADempiere is free to use. I know it is hard to believe, but it is quite capable. The biggest impact is when you want all your users on the system. To have 40+ users in ADempiere is common. To have 40+ users in GP is expensive.
I was the Dir of IT for about 6 years using Great Plains as the ERP, and I lead a team using ADempiere for the same period of time. My strong preference was toward ADempiere because I could have all 110 employees doing their jobs in one system.
In my expereince regarding cloud based ERP, I recommend using Amazon's AWS cloud service. Find a good consultant that can create a high-availability server for you. Your ERP integrator will help you resolve any issues related to support. This setup will keep servers out of your closet.

I would seriously suggest NetSuite as a consideration - we work on NetSuite in China, the USA, South America and several other regions and it's quite amazing to see how flexible the system can be if you have a good partner working with you on it.
The publishing industry has it's own challenges - I believe NetSuite is an easy-to-use, SaaS system that works well.
