Prime Pay vs Paychex vs Paylocity

For the last 17+ years, I have been an independent consultant that serves as a CFO and HR executive for smaller firms that don't require/can't afford full-time employees in these capacities.

I placed my first client with PrimePay in 2011, and now have eight clients using their payroll service. Obviously I am extremely pleased with the service they provide. I have one point of contact for all of my client accounts, who has proven to be very responsive to any issues that have arisen. Also their fees are extremely competitive with the bigger players. I can recommend them without reservation.

Over the course of my career, I have worked with ADP, Paychex, Ceridian, and several other payroll service providers. While I will not "badmouth" any of these companies, I can honestly say that none of them has done a better job than PrimePay in fulfilling the service that you as an employer expect from a payroll company: Consistent delivery of payroll at a competitive price, no excuses.

We have had great experience with Heartland Payment Systems. They often take the overflow of ADP and Paychex. The dedicated representatives assigned to our clients have the best customer service in my opinion. We've had an ADP rep that shifted career opportunities without even notifying us and we later found out after numerous times trying to resolve an issue. Paychex dropped the ball when they initially transitioned our account and we were left with a fine from the IRS that they would not pay. Of course that rep had left too.
