My company is a professional services firm, so tracking utilization of billable employees is critical to driving profitability. We have just begun the evaluation process, and are about to meet with Projector as well as "the usual suspects." I am not familiar with Projector, but have received some positive word-of-mouth comments from fellow financial executives. I am curious as to the ease (or difficulty) of implementation, user friendliness, ability to generate custom as well as "canned" reports, etc. Feedback would be appreciated!

you should take a look at FinancialForce.com PSA. Projector can only drill into capacity, not #hours or yield and reporting isn't great.
Although Salesforce is not required to get strong benefits from FinancialForce, it is an added bonus if you are on the platform as it is native to Salesforce providing true Sales to Services handoff and visibility.
I've used Projector before and drilling into hours, yield, and capacity are all fundamental features of the tool. There is even a good deal of flexibility surrounding how yield is calculated--taking into account vacation, holidays, overtime, contract terms, etc... The reporting is also very robust and has quite a few options for output formats and customization.
I've never used Financial Force before, but my guess is that it suffers from some of the same reporting limitations and configuration complexity that salesforce does since its built on top of it.
