I'd recommend you take a look at Transcentive. As SEC Reporting Manager, I've used this software for the past 12 years and have been extremely happy with it. The reporting functionality that comes with the application has significantly eased the process of drafting the Form 10-K and 10-Q footnote disclosures.
The software is fairly flexible from the standpoint that it can be customized to meet different organizational needs and can be used by public and private entities.
Private companies are required to use the average volatility history of 5 of their public company competitors, selection obtained from companies that are most similar in size, capital structure, and other characteristics. Once the derived input value is computed, the software products require only that the inputs are provided by the user. Fully integrated software solution products will retain the history needed to accurately produce the inputs. The software product you select should be flexible to handle multiple levels of capital structure as this will likely change when the company goes public. I am familiar with the rigorous effort it takes to track stock option granting data and costing in Excel.
