I would like to know how effective is VBA Excel for entry-level accounting? Whether it is worth learning VBA or not ?
VBA Excel in Accounting
Answers
VBA is a real good thing to automate many tasks that can be performed with in excel.
However, For entry level accounting, i wold advise to have some cloud accounting subscription like XERO or QBO.
The key reasons for that is, if you are only going to learn and use VBA for your accounting tasks, the time and efforts that you would put in learning VBA will be too costly as compared to these online subscriptions of accounting software. VBA means you want to write your own program for accounting and developing your inhouse accounting software. Comparing the time cost for that and money cost of these online subscriptions, you would spend a lot.
Moreover, there may be a scenario of bugs and fixing later on and that may consume a lot of time in future for updates and bug fixing.
Again, it is a personal choice but my preference is if you want to learn VBA, learn it as your "hobby/side project".
In my opinion anything that simplifies your work is plus.
In today's age, most of our work is on excel. And with VBA, you can automate some of these tasks.
Not mandatory to learn but definitely recommended. Very useful as you progress and specially if you move to reporting side of finance in future.
