What is the best cloud accounting platform for a growing life science company?

What is this obsession with moving to the "cloud"?
When even the IRS can get hacked, why on earth do businesses want to put their lifeblood out in some public domain where no one really takes responsibility for it? If it gets hit, they aren't going to take the economic penalty.
Cloud apps make you completely dependent on electronic communication outside of your physical location. And, from what I've seen, they really aren't all that cost effective.
I don't know about most folks but our internal network is almost never down or imperiled and we have redundancy and disaster recovery capabilities in place that we test on a regular basis.
But, our communication outside of our firewall is another story. We have T-1, DSL and telephone lines. They have service issues that bring us to a halt more than ten times as often as anything internally.
We have no control over them and are dependent on outside providers for their operation. Worse, when they become problematic, they tend to be problematic for days at a time. The first 24 hours is spent arguing whose system is the problem. The next fortyeight are waiting for service/repair to show up. Then, it's often another 24 to 48 waiting for parts or new equipment. And this is with "guaranteed" service. Their techs oftentimes don't seem to know what they are doing and often outright admit that.
And yes, I know that all the service sales folks that come in here pitch their "we have lots of redundancy and can guarantee our up time at XX%". But, they can't "guarantee" the communication from here to their server farm in who knows where.
How's that cloud thing work again?
