I have only seen someone ask about ZenPayroll on here once, and it was a specific question to compare it against ADP. I wanted to refresh the question and get a broader response. Does anyone have experience with the new(ish) payroll company ZenPayroll? If so, how many employees do you have? Anything to know before making the switch? What payroll service provider did you switch from? What do you like? What do you dislike?

I'm using it with a small company (just a few employees and contractors).
So far it has been pretty simple, very cheap, easy to use.
They don't seem to cover all of the US, but are good enough for this company.
There aren't a lot of robust controls built in, which if this were applied to a larger company or more users, would give me pause.
The reporting could be a little deeper, which again seems like it wouldn't scale as well.
This one was greenfield, so we haven't switched from something else in this case.
The GL feed works well (in this case to Xero)
Summary, at this scale it is cheap and easy, and pretty adequate.
I'd be hesitant to push it past twenty employees or so.
Great, thanks so much for the input. Very helpful and pretty on par with what I was thinking.
We looked into and are still seriously considering it. Which States are your employees based in?
I've implemented ZenPayroll over the last few weeks for two companies, one a new IT consultancy of mine and another, a distributor business. Both only have a few employees, so my assessment at this point is very much in line with Keith.
Converting was easy for the one client, a move from SurePayroll. Integration with Xero works well, which has become my
I will say that the customer service has been tremendous with this upstart team - super quick response and they are willing to listen to comments and suggestions.
I've signed on as a partner with them for my
I agree with the comments here. We just switched our 10-employee company with employees in CA and Colorado to ZenPayroll.
Very easy to use, great setup process and the employees love the employee portal.
The reports are VERY basic (not quite as many as SurePayroll, which has TERRIBLE reporting). The formats of the ZenPayroll reports make it nearly useless to export to
Export to QB is via IIF, which is not ideal, but since it's just a journal entry (actually a single check), it works out fine. We don't even do the IIF import, but instead memorize a QB JE to record payroll.
It's a great product for the under 20-employee firm. They only do about 10 states at this point, but they're building out more.
They have OUTSTANDING support, and the price is very good.
